ORLANDO, Fla – Eustis woman claims travel club took her money but gave her nothing in return
, and Action 9 learned that the Central Florida company had a few dozen complaints about its travel offers.
Todd Ulrich of Action 9 confronted business leaders over member complaints
, and he got results.
Janie Hirst just wanted to get away from it all, so when someone approached her about a travel club offering big discounts on vacation resorts and flights, she wanted to find out more.
âWe were promised the cheapest reservations on airlines and hotels. We would get two timeshare stays on top of that, âshe said.
Hirst said she paid $ 1,000 after a sales pitch by Map Destinations in St. Augustine and was told the company was based in Winter Park.
She says an attempt to book a trip was not possible over the phone and she couldn’t get answers for weeks.
âThey always say someone will call you back, but no one will call back,â Hirst said.
Map Destinations has a C rating to the Better Business Bureau, with 36 complaints, and shares a website with Map Destinations in South Carolina, which has an F rating.
Ulrich took Hirst’s case to business leaders in St. Augustine.
âI spoke to a consumer,â Ulrich said.
“Turn off the camera,” replied an official.
âShe says the dream vacation has been a nightmare,â Ulrich said.
âIs that correct? Let’s go outside,â one official said.
Ulrich explained, “She says she paid $ 1,000 and couldn’t make a trip.”
“Is it correct?” the manager replied, escorting Ulrich out of the building.
, senior management showed Action 9 Hirst’s membership dossier and what someone had been assigned to call it.
The company offered a cheaper deal when Hirst missed a payment and anyone who wants to go through the Winter Park fulfillment company can do so.
will now reimburse Hirst.
âI don’t want to waste my time with them anymore. I don’t want to spin my wheels, âHirst said.
Winter Park RSI actually arranges the trip for Map Destinations, a marketing company.
RSI is rated A-plus, but many customers have told the BBB that they haven’t saved money by purchasing travel this way.
